Make a Difference, Inspire, Challenge, Teach!

CTTC annually trains around 80 primary and secondary teachers from its base at Colchester County High School for Girls. The strong partnership of over 40 schools and colleges in Essex and Suffolk provides diversity and choice for trainees by offering a wide range of educational experiences including grammar school, Sixth Form college and specialist SEND placements.  As our programmes are run by schools for schools, we understand the needs of teachers in training.

The teacher training provision at CTTC was recognised as outstanding with the award of Ofsted’s highest grade across all areas in a recent inspection.  The school centred programme allows trainees to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) inspiring “an infectious enthusiasm for teaching” (Ofsted Report January 2018) through a combination of taught sessions and practical on the job training in managing classes and planning lessons alongside colleagues in local schools.

Our Primary and Secondary School Direct Programmes (Tuition Fee route or Salaried route) lead to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).  Our PGCE is validated by the University of Greenwich and through the university we can also offer 60 credits towards a Master’s degree.  In 2019, 98% of trainees attained good or outstanding outcomes.

“A rich programme of training, combined with high-quality complementary school placements, equips trainees with the skills and knowledge to become successful, thoughtful teachers” (Ofsted Report January 2018).

Our employment record for trainees is excellent with local schools keen to employ trainees from the partnership.  Many NQTs and former trainees move quickly into leadership and management roles.  As one local Headteacher told inspectors, CTTC trainees are “excellent ambassadors for the profession.”   There is guaranteed employment in partner schools for trainees achieving outstanding outcomes in Maths or Science.

Trainees value the strong pastoral support and mentoring that they receive on their individualised programmes which, as one trainee teacher put it “is tailored to our needs, we are not just a number”, a secondary Maths trainee added: “I am passionate about inspiring students to continue their educational journey and maximise their potential.”
